Aims and Objectives:

EaST BUG is a local non-profit community group dedicated to the promotion and use of bicycles as a means of transport within the South East region of Brisbane.

EaST BUG is a group open to all types of cyclists. Whether you consider yourself to be a recreational cyclist, commuter cyclist or even a professional cyclist, if you ride on the roads or cycleways on the EAST Side of Brisbane we have your cycling interests at heart. We want to ensure that your bicycle riding experience on the EAST side of town is an enjoyable, safe and convenient one.

Our aims are as follows:

  • Maximising the use of cycling facilities we already have by encouraging the maintenance and upkeep of existing bike lanes and pathways and end trip facilities

  • Advocating for the provision of more and better infrastructure - both on and off roads namely bike lanes, bike paths and end trip facilities

  • Encouraging better integration of cycling infrastructure and access with all modes of public transport

  • Gathering information about current usage of the Eastern Suburbs by cyclists and feeding this information into current and future planning processes

  • Gathering feedback from the community about cycling issues and actively participating in community consultation processes within the Eastern Suburbs

  • Increasing participation by promoting the social, economic and environmental benefits of cycling and by raising awareness of existing facilities and opportunities to potential cyclists within the Eastern Suburbs including the development of safe routes to work and school and developing  a bike buddy program
